Wesley Nielsen

Wesley Nielsen is a trombonist, electroacoustic performer, and educator based in northwest Ohio. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Contemporary Music Performance at Bowling Green State University, where he serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

Specializing in contemporary music, Wesley’s artistic work explores the intersection of acoustic performance and electronic media. Through the use of electronics and extended techniques, he develops performances that challenge audience expectations of both the trombone and the concert experience. His work is driven by a desire to explore new soundscapes, push technical limitations, and allow audiences to engage with music in new ways.

As an educator, Wesley has served on the faculty of the Boise State University Low Brass Camp and the Bowling Green State University Summer Music Institute. He has presented clinics and masterclasses on electroacoustic performance, range development, and extended techniques. Wesley has also completed a guest artist residency at Mahidol University in Thailand. In addition to his collegiate teaching experience, he has maintained a private studio since 2022, teaching trombone and euphonium students from elementary to high school levels.

Wesley holds a Master of Music in Performance from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Boise State University. His ongoing creative work focuses on expanding the artistic possibilities of the trombone through contemporary repertoire, technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
